Biological Treatments
Our biological treatments are a natural way we help create the perfect pond for you to enjoy without the use of chemicals. Biological products are our first line of defense in the prevention of unwanted pests such as algae, weeds, and muck BEFORE they become a problem. These products help address the root cause of algae in ponds as they help with the excessive nutrients that occur in ponds. We recommend to start doing these in the spring, before the warmer weather, to get the best results and to help in avoiding the use of chemicals.
Chemical Solutions
Sometimes if a pond has a lot of algae or weeds the only solution is to treat with chemicals. Before we treat with any chemical, we will come out and identify the algae or weed so we can customize your treatment to treat that specific pest. Usually chemical treatment plans will have multiple applications. When killing algae or weeds, the decaying plants reduce the amount of oxygen in your water, and if you overtreat your pond and try to kill everything at once you can harm fish or other living organisms in your pond. We do biological treatments at the same time as our chemical treatments as these help new blooms of algae or weeds. Without the biological treatment you can end up with an excess of nutrients from the decaying plants and sometimes that can cause you to “feed” the next algae bloom.
Manual Removal
Along with our biological and chemical treatment solutions, there may be instances where we would recommend manual removal, either by hand or through the use of a special amphibious machine. By removing as much plant material as possible you reduce the amount of excess nutrients in your pond and hopefully reduce the need for other treatments.
Aeration
Why have aeration?
Oxygen plays a big role in the overall health of your pond. Without aeration, there is no oxygen in the bottom part of your pond. Oxygen dependent organisms or the “good bacteria” that help clean the water can’t live and is how “muck” accumulates. That “muck” can cause algae blooms, excessive weed growth, and sometimes fish kills. Aeration, along with biological treatments, are the best way to prevent problems in the future and avoid the need for chemical solutions.
