Spring has Sprung! But this Spring in the Kansas City area it
is unusual in that we have not experienced the Spring rains. Normally the rains kept our water features topped off. We are experiencing the normal high windy days but very dry air.
The dry air zaps water right out of the ponds and the winds whip it out of the feature into your surrounding landscape. All this action results in high water loss and evaporation. It can be as much as several inches a week and sometimes even several inches a day depending on the water feature. For many it may seem that you have a leak when in reality it is evaporation. The best thing is to top off your pond and just keep an eye on things until the weather straightens out.
Watch for more detailed report to follow on evaporation and water loss.
